Along with our sled dogs, we have 5 American Pit Bull Terriers that live here full time, one (Amelie) that lives here part time and we seem to always have a few foster Pit Bulls that are waiting for new homes. This is a highly misunderstood breed. Pit Bulls that are properly bred and properly socialized make wonderful pets. They aim to please their owners and excell in agility, frisbee, flyball, weightpulling, pretty much any dog sport. American Pit Bull Terriers are very active and sometimes stubborn, they need a firm, but fair owner. You must remember that these dogs were bred for hundreds of years as butcher's dogs, their job was to catch and hold bulls that could weigh more than 1000lbs. They were also used in bloodsports like bullbaiting until it was outlawed. Some people then started using them to fight other dogs, and they were bred for this purpose for many generations until the middle of the 1900's. Some people still fight dogs even though it is not legal, but most pit bulls are bred as pets and show/working dogs now. Their history as fighting/baiting dogs gives them a do or die attitude which helps them be so great at dogsports and also makes them extremely people friendly (who would have wanted to referee a dogfight if they were in danger of being bitten?) Back in the days of Bloodsports, people would not tolerate a pit dog that would bite a human, they put them down, and their genes never entered the pool. The hysteria about pit bulls is a recent thing, and newspapers love to print "pit bull attack" stories, even when it it's known that the dog is of another breed, because it really sells. There are some people out there that are not breeding carefully and even crossing other breeds into Pit Bull lines, breeds like Mastiffs, Cane Corsos and various other "gaurdian" breeds and passing them off as pure bred but oversized "pit bulls." If you are interested in owning a Pit Bull, do a lot of research on the breed and ask your breeder lots of questions, go to dogshows (UKC, AKC, ADBA), attend weightpulls, learn the standard (UKC, AKC, ADBA) and stick to it. The breed really needs friends at this time, many cities, states and provinces have outlawed the ownership of these wonderful dogs. I do not want my town to be next.
See the complete UKC breed standard at the bottom of this page.
Our dogs get along pretty well, though we never leave them alone unsupervised. Even our sled dogs are seperated while we are not here to keep an eye on them.

This is "PR" Northern Diamond Morgan Lefay, D.O.B.-July '04. She came from Serendipity Kennels in Washington state. She is a super friendly dog that loves everyone she meets. She excells at frisbee, swimming and agility. I can teach her new "tricks" in a matter of minutes. Morgan is a really good all around type of dog, she is athletic (weighing in at 45lbs) and has alot of endurance, making her a fun girl to work with. Her parents are both champion show dogs and her sire has his CGC certificate.
Weight pulling
Jumping to show off for a ball
Swimming in the pond out back
Tugging on rope
Sleeping after a hard day playing
This is Angel, (he is a male and does not take kindly to teasing) "PR" Raineers Angelus Liam of NDK, born September '04. I got him from my mother in Washington state (Raineer Kennels) He is an all around great dog. He is well behaved in the house happily laying on the couch or sitting in front of the heater. Angel is very athletic, quick, and has a lot of endurance. He will swim until he can't swim any more, and you have to drag him home kickin' and screaming! Angel also really likes jumping, he will show off for a ball, or he may think you have a ball and spring straight up into the air. He really is not as big as you would think, he is 52 lbs of muscle, well within the written standard for Pit Bulls (30-60lbs- see official standard at bottom of page) Angel really likes to catch frisbees too, he just destroys them rather quickly! He is a really fun dog, and is very people friendly.
Sire: CH "PR" Gamblers Roll of the Dice
Dam: "PR" Raineers Pandemonium Unleash
"PR" Raineers Spice of NDK. Spice is Angel's older sister, 3 years older. Spice is spayed. She is a good girl that loves people. She sometimes does not get along with other female dogs, so we have to watch her closely. Now that she is getting older she likes to be a couch potato, though she still likes to play fetch and run on the treadmill (see second photo). Spice is a cuddler and likes to be under the blankets on the bed, which is helpful on those cold winter nights.

Storm, born January '08. She is a very high energy girl, always on the move. Running is her favorite speed. Flying off the furniture is her favorite "sport." This dog is small, quick and I think, a little crazy. I would love to train her in agility. She weighs right at 36lbs with a very athletic build, "old school" some have said, as she looks like a game bred dog of yesteryear.
Here she is "grazing" with one of the LaMancha goats. She was watching him nibble on grass and leaves and decided to give it a try.

This is Amelie, the part time dog, I have "joint custody" with her daddy. She is Mojo's daughter (we bred Mojo a few years ago, she was spayed a few months after Amelie was born. Amelie was also spayed.) This high energy girl loves to play fetch and swim. We have to think of new things to teach her because she is easily bored. She knows her obedience commands in french (she is named after a french film) She was born November '04 and weighs in at a whopping 36lbs! (also within the written standard for pit bulls, 30-60lbs)

This is Mojo doing one of the things she loves. The other things she likes are riding in the car and barking at every thing she sees on the trip, getting in the trash, sleeping under the covers (in the winter) sleeping on top of her kennel not in it, barking at every sound outside, and sometimes she wets the bed (she is getting older and is spayed) But we love her even with all her challenges
UPDATE: Mojo has passed away. It was such a surprise and a shock to us. I am still very upset about the whole thing. When I am ready, I may post the whole story. For now I will just say it was a condition known as IVDD. Intervertabrael Disc Disease..
